🔧 Accord - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll replace the front turn signal bulbs by accessing the bulb sockets from behind each headlight with the hood open. This is a quick job, and it usually doesn’t require removing the headlight or bumper.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves—bulbs can be hot and the glass can break if squeezed.
- ⚠️ Do not touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb replacement.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket
- 3/8" ratchet
- 3" socket extension
- Trim clip removal tool
- Flashlight
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, dual-filament) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlight switch to OFF and make sure the turn signals are OFF.
- Open the hood and have your flashlight ready.
- Tip: Do one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the back of the headlight
- Open the hood and look behind the headlight assembly on the side you’re replacing.
- Use a flashlight to find the turn signal/parking light socket (it will be a twist-lock socket going into the headlight housing).
Step 2: Create a little working room (only if needed)
- If your hand doesn’t fit comfortably, remove the plastic air intake snorkel/duct near the headlight.
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop up any push-clips (a push-clip is a plastic fastener with a center pin that lifts up first).
- If there are small bolts holding a bracket/duct, remove them using a 10mm socket, 3/8" ratchet, and 3" socket extension.
- Tip: Set clips/bolts in a cup.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn.
- Pull the socket straight back to remove it from the headlight housing.
- Torque note: No torque specs are used here—this is a hand-tight twist-lock socket.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style on this setup).
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean and dry before installing.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
- Rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it stops (snug by hand).
Step 7: Reinstall any removed duct/clips
- Reposition the duct/bracket.
- Reinstall any bolts using a 10mm socket, 3/8" ratchet, and 3" socket extension (snug—do not over-tighten into plastic).
- Reinstall push-clips using the trim clip removal tool to align them, then press them in by hand.
Step 8: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1–7 for the opposite front turn signal bulb.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Verify the front bulbs blink at a normal speed (fast blinking usually means a bulb isn’t working or isn’t seated).
- Turn on the parking lights and confirm the same bulbs illuminate steadily (if your setup uses a dual-filament bulb).
