🔧 CR-V - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your CR-V’s front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlight assembly. You’ll twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, then test the signals and hazards to confirm proper operation.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if it was recently on.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Support the hood securely; don’t work with it partially latched.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Trim clip remover
- Flat-blade screwdriver
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" socket extension
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on (gives more hand space).
- Open the hood and have your flashlight ready.
- Tip: When you remove the old bulb, read the bulb number printed on it and match the replacement to that number.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the turn signal bulb socket
- Use your flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly on the side you’re replacing.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket (it’s a small socket that twists out of the headlight housing).
- If your hand space is tight, use one of the access options in Step 2.
Step 2: Create room (use the option that fits your side)
- Option A (from under the hood): Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" socket extension to remove any small 10mm bolts holding a nearby plastic air duct/resonator (if it blocks your hand). Set bolts aside.
- Option B (through the fender liner): Turn the wheel outward for space, then use a trim clip remover and flat-blade screwdriver to remove a few plastic clips on the front edge of the wheel-well liner and pull it back slightly.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Grip the socket and twist it counterclockwise about a quarter-turn.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlight housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a “wedge” bulb, meaning it’s held by friction, not threads).
- Install the new bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If it feels loose, it’s not fully seated.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
- Twist it clockwise until it stops (snug by hand).
Step 6: Reassemble any parts you moved
- If you used Option A, reinstall the plastic duct/resonator using the 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" socket extension.
- If you used Option B, push the liner back into place and reinstall the clips using the trim clip remover and flat-blade screwdriver.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Replace the other front turn signal bulb the same way (bulbs age similarly, so pairs help keep brightness even).
✅ After Repair
- Start the car and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front signals blink evenly.
- If a signal blinks very fast, remove that bulb and reseat it firmly, then retest.
