🔧 CR-V - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your CR-V’s front turn signal bulbs sit in the headlight assemblies and can be replaced from under the hood. You’ll remove the bulb socket, swap the bulb, then test the turn signals and hazards to confirm everything works.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.6 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if it was recently on.
  • ⚠️ Avoid touching the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (7440A / amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
  • Dielectric grease - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Set the parking brake and open the hood.
  • Turn the headlight switch to OFF.
  • Use a flashlight—space is tight.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Identify the correct bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight and look behind the headlight assembly on one side.
  • Find the turn signal bulb socket (it’s usually the socket closer to the outer/fender side of the headlight).
  • If unsure, turn hazards on briefly to confirm.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
  • If it’s stuck, gently help it start turning using a small flathead screwdriver (light pressure only).

Step 3: Remove the old bulb from the socket

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (it’s a wedge-fit bulb, meaning it just pulls out—no twisting).
  • If it’s tight, use the small flathead screwdriver to gently pry at the bulb base while pulling.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Apply a tiny smear of dielectric grease to the socket contacts (this helps prevent corrosion).
  • Push the new 7440A / amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Don’t force it—re-align and try again.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
  • Turn the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn by hand until it stops and feels locked.
  • No torque spec here—snug by hand only.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Use the flashlight and repeat Steps 1–5 for the other front turn signal bulb.
  • Replacing both keeps brightness and color matched.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on the hazard lights and walk around to confirm both front signals flash normally.
  • If one flashes fast, re-seat that bulb and re-lock the socket (fast flash usually means a bulb isn’t working).

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $80-$160 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $8-$25 (parts only)

You Save: $55-$140 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.3-0.6 hours.
