šŸ”§ Accord - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Accord’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housing. The most common way to reach them is through the front wheel-well access flap/liner so you don’t have to remove the whole headlight.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the lights OFF and let the headlight area cool before reaching in.
  • āš ļø Support the car with jack stands if you lift it; never rely on a jack alone.
  • āš ļø Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • ā„¹ļø Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Wheel chocks
  • Floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum)
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flat-blade screwdriver (small)
  • Phillips screwdriver #2
  • 8mm socket
  • 1/4" drive ratchet
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
  • Fender liner push clips - Optional (in case any break) - Qty: 4-10

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Chock the rear wheels with wheel chocks.
  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on (gives your hand room).
  • If you want more space, lift that front corner with a floor jack and support with jack stands.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Create access at the wheel well

  • Use a flashlight to find the small access area in the front part of the fender liner (in front of the tire, behind the bumper).
  • Remove the liner fasteners in that area using a trim clip removal tool for push-clips and a Phillips screwdriver #2 or 8mm socket for screws/bolts (varies by position).
  • Peel the liner back just enough to reach the back of the headlight.
  • Tip: Work gently; old clips snap easily.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlight housing and locate the turn signal bulb socket (it will have wires going to it).
  • Rotate the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand and pull it straight out.
  • If it’s tight, use a flat-blade screwdriver (small) to gently assist your grip—do not pry hard on the headlight plastic.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Put on nitrile gloves.
  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a pull-fit).
  • Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) straight into the socket until fully seated.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing and rotate clockwise to lock.
  • Turn the ignition to ON and test the turn signal and hazards.
  • If it doesn’t work, remove the socket again and re-seat the bulb firmly.

Step 5: Reattach the fender liner

  • Reposition the liner and reinstall all clips/screws using a Phillips screwdriver #2 or 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
  • Torque: Honda does not publish a service torque for these small liner fasteners; tighten snug (do not strip).

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify left and right turn signals flash at normal speed (fast flashing usually means a bulb isn’t working).
  • Check hazards, then do a quick walk-around to confirm both front turn signals are bright and amber.
  • If you lifted the car, remove jack stands and lower it safely with the floor jack, then remove wheel chocks.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $80-$160 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $10-$30 (parts only)

You Save: $50-$140 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.5-1.0 hours.
