🔧 Accord - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

You’ll replace the front turn signal bulbs by accessing the back of each headlight housing from under the hood. The bulb sits in a twist-lock socket; once the socket is out, the bulb pulls straight out and pushes back in.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and make sure the light switch is OFF.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Wear gloves; skin oil can shorten bulb life.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the turn signal bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight and look behind the headlight assembly from inside the engine bay.
  • Find the turn signal socket (it’s a round, twist-lock socket on the back of the headlight, typically toward the outer side of the car).

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket from the headlight

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Grip the socket and twist it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
  • If it’s tight, wiggle while pulling.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb from the socket

  • Hold the socket firmly and pull the bulb straight out (it’s a wedge-type bulb—no twisting).
  • Use a flashlight to confirm the socket terminals are clean and not burnt.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, push the new front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Don’t touch the glass with bare fingers.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Line up the socket tabs with the headlight housing and insert the socket.
  • Twist clockwise by hand until it locks firmly in place.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Use the same steps for the opposite front turn signal bulb.
  • Replacing in pairs keeps brightness even.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front signals flash at a normal speed.
  • If it “hyper-flashes” (very fast), recheck that the bulb is fully seated and the socket is fully locked.
