🔧 Focus - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

You’ll replace the front turn signal bulb by accessing the back of the headlight housing from inside the engine bay. The bulb sits in a twist-lock bulb socket, and it’s a quick job once you can reach it.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Wear gloves and don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
  • ⚠️ If you must raise the car for access, support it with jack stands.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Small flathead screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Pop the hood and use a flashlight so you can see behind the headlight.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the turn signal bulb socket

  • Open the hood and look behind the headlight on the side you’re replacing.
  • Use a flashlight to find the turn signal bulb socket (the plastic holder the bulb locks into; it twists to remove).

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket from the headlight

  • Grip the socket firmly by hand.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise until it unlocks, then pull it straight out.
  • If the socket is stuck, gently help the tab with a small flathead screwdriver—don’t pry hard. Plastic cracks easily when cold.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the bulb straight out of the socket by hand (no twisting for most push-in types).
  • Wear nitrile gloves to keep oil off the new bulb.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Press the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean and dry before installing.

Step 5: Reinstall the bulb socket

  • Line up the socket tabs with the headlight housing.
  • Push the socket in and twist clockwise until it locks.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side (recommended)

  • Replace the other front turn signal bulb the same way so brightness and color match.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and test the left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on the hazards and confirm both front signals blink at a normal speed.
  • If one side blinks fast, re-check that the bulb is fully seated and the socket is locked in.
