🔧 E-150 - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
The front turn signal bulb on your E-150 sits in the front lamp housing and can be replaced from under the hood. You’ll remove the headlamp assembly enough to reach the bulb socket, swap the bulb, and confirm the flash rate is normal.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool if it was recently on.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ If the bulb is stuck, don’t force the wiring—pull on the socket body, not the wires.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlight switch to OFF.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Replace bulbs in pairs for matched brightness.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the headlamp retaining pins
- Open the hood and look at the top/rear edge of the headlamp assembly.
- Locate the retaining pins (they look like long metal pins with a loop/handle at the top).
- Use safety glasses and a flashlight so you can clearly see the pin locations.
Step 2: Remove the retaining pins
- Pull the retaining pins straight up by the loop/handle.
- If a pin is tight, gently wiggle while pulling. If needed, use needle-nose pliers to grip the loop and pull upward.
- If there’s a small locking tab, carefully lift it with a small flat-blade screwdriver (a flat screwdriver is a straight-tip screwdriver).
Step 3: Slide the headlamp assembly forward
- With the pins removed, use your hands (wear nitrile gloves) to pull the headlamp assembly straight forward.
- Pull it out only as far as needed to reach the bulb socket behind it.
- Go slow—don’t strain the wiring.
Step 4: Remove the front turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal/park bulb socket on the back of the assembly (it’s the socket that twists out).
- Grip the socket body and rotate it about a quarter-turn counterclockwise by hand to unlock it.
- Pull the socket straight out.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new bulb by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
- Keep the bulb glass clean—use nitrile gloves.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket and headlamp assembly
- Insert the socket back into the housing.
- Rotate the socket clockwise about a quarter-turn by hand until it locks.
- Slide the headlamp assembly back into place, lining up the guide tabs/pegs.
- Reinstall the retaining pins by pushing them straight down until fully seated.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side (recommended)
- Use the same steps for the other front turn signal bulb so both sides match.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the key to ON and test the left and right turn signals.
- Turn on the parking lights and confirm the front bulbs illuminate normally (if your bulb is a dual-function park/turn type).
- If the turn signal flashes very fast, the bulb may be the wrong type or not seated fully—recheck the bulb and socket fit.
- Make sure the retaining pins are fully locked so the headlamp assembly can’t move.
