🔧 Lancer - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Lancer’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housings. You’ll access them from behind the headlight in the engine bay, swap the bulb, then test the signals and hazards to confirm everything works.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool down if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and avoid touching the bulb glass (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Don’t force plastic tabs or sockets; they can crack.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" socket extension

- Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
Assumption: Most Lancer GT front turn signals use an amber 7440A-style bulb; HowToo will match the correct fitment by your vehicle selection.
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Have your flashlight ready so you can clearly see the bulb socket.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open access behind the headlight
- Open the hood and locate the back side of the headlight housing.
- Use a flashlight to find the turn signal socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the headlight).
- If space is tight, remove any nearby intake snorkel/cover pieces using a flat trim removal tool for clips and a 10mm socket with 1/4" ratchet and 6" extension for bolts.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grip the turn signal socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlight housing.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a “wedge” bulb, meaning it’s held by friction, not threads).
- Tip: Wiggle gently if it’s stuck.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, push the new amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth (oils can create hot spots).
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, making sure it sits flush.
- Rotate clockwise until it locks into place (snug, not forced).
- Reinstall any snorkel/cover pieces you removed using the 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and flat trim removal tool.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1–5 for the other front turn signal.
- Tip: Replacing both keeps brightness and color matched.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on the hazard lights and verify both front signals blink evenly.
- If the turn signal blinks fast, one bulb is still out or not seated fully.
- Make sure any removed covers are secured and nothing is left near belts/fans.
