šŸ”§ F-350 Super Duty - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

On your F-350 Super Duty, the front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlamp assembly. The job is mostly removing the headlamp housing, swapping the bulb, and reinstalling everything so the lens seals correctly.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

Assumption: Your truck uses a 3157A/3157NA-style front turn/park bulb (common for this model year).

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • āš ļø Let the headlamp area cool if it was recently on.
  • āš ļø Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • āš ļø Make sure the bulb socket fully locks back in, or moisture can get into the lamp.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flat trim tool
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal/parking light bulb (amber 3157A or 3157NA) - Qty: 1
  • Dielectric grease (small packet) - Qty: 1

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and keep it securely propped.
  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the headlamp retaining pins

  • Locate the two vertical retaining pins at the top/back edge of the headlamp (they look like flat metal/plastic ā€œtabsā€).
  • Use a small flat trim tool to gently pry up the locking tabs if needed, then pull the pins straight up by hand.
  • Tip: Pull straight up to avoid bending.

Step 2: Slide the headlamp assembly forward

  • Grip the headlamp housing and pull it straight forward.
  • If it feels stuck, wiggle gently while pulling—don’t yank hard (there are alignment pegs).
  • Use a flashlight to see the back of the headlamp clearly.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Find the turn signal/park bulb socket on the back of the headlamp (typically a twist-lock socket).
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand and pull it out.
  • Definition: A ā€œtwist-lock socketā€ locks in place with a short turn.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
  • Install the new front turn signal/parking light bulb (amber 3157A/3157NA) by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
  • Apply a tiny dab of dielectric grease to the socket seal (not on the bulb glass). Tip: Helps prevent corrosion.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Insert the socket into the headlamp and twist clockwise until it locks.
  • Before reinstalling the headlamp fully, turn the key to ON and test the turn signal and hazards.
  • If it doesn’t work, turn key OFF and re-check the bulb seating and socket lock.

Step 6: Reinstall the headlamp assembly and retaining pins

  • Line up the headlamp alignment pegs and slide the housing straight back into place.
  • Reinstall the two retaining pins by pushing them straight down until fully seated.
  • Close the hood and do a final quick light check.

āœ… After Repair

  • Test: left turn, right turn, hazards, and parking lights.
  • Confirm the bulb flashes at a normal speed (fast flashing can indicate another bulb is out).
  • Check that the headlamp sits flush and doesn’t wobble.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost
