🔧 F-250 Super Duty - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll remove the headlamp assembly to access the front turn signal/park bulb socket, then swap the bulb and test the signals. This is a simple job, but take your time so you don’t crack the headlamp or touch the new bulb’s glass.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
Assumption: factory-style halogen headlamp housing (not aftermarket LED).
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and let the bulbs cool before touching the housings.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and safety glasses; plastic tabs can snap and fly.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job, but keep the ignition off.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket

- Front turn signal/park bulb (amber, 3157A-type) - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and make sure the headlamps are switched OFF.
- Lay a towel on the bumper area below the headlamp to prevent scratches.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the headlamp retaining fasteners
- Use safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Locate the fasteners at the top of the headlamp assembly.
- Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" extension to remove the headlamp bolts.
- If your truck uses clips/retainers at the top edge, use a trim clip tool to lift them straight up.
Step 2: Pull the headlamp assembly forward
- Use both hands and pull the headlamp straight forward; it’s held by alignment pins.
- Work gently—steady pressure is better than yanking. Plastic tabs break easily when cold.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal/park bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to see the rear of the headlamp assembly.
- Find the turn signal/park bulb socket (usually the larger lower socket).
- Grip the socket and turn it counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it out.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new 3157A-type amber bulb by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it with a clean, dry towel (or alcohol wipe) before installing.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and headlamp
- Insert the socket back into the housing and twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Reconnect any wiring you unplugged, then guide the headlamp back into place, lining up the pins.
- Reinstall the headlamp bolts using a 10mm socket and ratchet, then snug them evenly. Torque to 4-6 Nm (35-53 in-lbs).
- Reinstall any clips using the trim clip tool.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on hazard flashers and confirm both front signals blink evenly.
- If the turn signal blinks very fast, the bulb may be wrong type or not seated fully.
- Verify the headlamp is fully seated and the panel gaps look even.
