🔧 Tacoma - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll be replacing the front turn signal bulbs inside the headlamp housings. This is usually a simple twist-and-remove job done from behind the headlight with the hood open.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool if it was recently on (bulbs can be hot).
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and have a flashlight ready so you can see behind the headlamp.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb location
- Turn the hazard lights ON briefly, then turn them OFF.
- Use a flashlight to look at the headlamp and identify which section was blinking (that socket is the turn signal).
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- From behind the headlamp, find the turn signal socket (it’s a plastic socket going into the back of the headlamp).
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
- If tight, wiggle gently—don’t force it.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
- Use the flashlight to inspect the socket for corrosion or melting.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Install the new bulb by pressing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Keep your fingers off the bulb glass (use nitrile gloves or hold the base).
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
- Twist clockwise about 1/4 turn by hand until it locks in place.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 2–5 for the other front turn signal bulb.
- Replacing both helps them match brightness and color.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the hazards ON and verify both front turn signals flash normally.
- Turn the left and right turn signals ON one at a time and confirm proper operation.
- If the flash is fast (hyperflash), a bulb may be wrong type, not seated, or there’s another bulb out.
