🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Altima’s front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlamp housing and is replaced from behind the headlamp (under the hood). You’ll twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, then test the signals and hazards to confirm proper operation.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Do not force the bulb socket; plastic tabs can crack.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Altima on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlights and turn signals OFF.
- Open the hood and have your flashlight ready so you can see behind the headlamp.
- Tip: Replace both sides to match brightness.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb location
- Use a flashlight and look behind the headlamp assembly on the side you’re replacing.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket (it’s the socket that twists out of the headlamp housing).
- If you’re unsure, turn the hazards on briefly, then off, and identify the section that was flashing.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grip the turn signal bulb socket and rotate it about a quarter-turn counterclockwise by hand.
- Pull the socket straight back to remove it from the headlamp housing.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb from the socket
- Use a clean paper towel to hold the bulb.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
- Check the stamping on the old bulb base (this confirms the exact bulb type).
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Use nitrile gloves or a clean paper towel so you don’t touch the glass.
- Push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: If it feels loose, it’s not seated.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket into the headlamp
- Align the socket tabs with the slots in the headlamp housing.
- Push the socket in, then twist clockwise by hand until it stops (snug, not forced).
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Use the same steps with your flashlight on the opposite headlamp.
✅ After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
- If the signal blinks fast, recheck that the bulb is fully seated and the socket is fully locked.
- Make sure no wiring is rubbing on sharp edges behind the headlamp.
