🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Altima’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housing, but the easiest access is from the wheel-well liner (the plastic panel inside the fender). You’ll remove a few fasteners, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, then test the signals.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Work on a level surface and use jack stands before going under the fender area.
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and let the headlight area cool before reaching in.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools

- 10mm socket
- 3/8" drive ratchet

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Tip: Do one side first, then copy it.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn (don’t remove them yet).
Step 2: Raise and support the front corner
- Lift the front corner with a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum).
- Set the car onto jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum) at a solid lift point.
- Give the car a gentle push to confirm it’s stable before you continue.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Use the 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet to remove the lug nuts.
- Remove the wheel and set it aside.
Step 4: Open the wheel-well liner for access
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out the plastic clips along the front section of the liner.
- If a fastener is stubborn, use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry the center pin up first, then remove the clip.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8" drive ratchet to remove any 10mm screws you see in the same area.
- Pull the liner back just enough to reach the rear of the headlight. (The liner is flexible—don’t crease it hard.)
- Trim clip tool = forked tool that pops clips out.
Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to find the turn signal socket on the back of the headlight (it’s one of the smaller twist-lock sockets).
- Grip the socket by hand and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise, then pull it straight out.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
- Push the new front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) straight into the socket until it seats fully.
- Tip: If you touched the glass, wipe it clean.
Step 7: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing and twist clockwise to lock it.
- Turn the ignition to ON and test the turn signal and hazards.
- If it doesn’t work, remove the socket and re-seat the bulb (most no-light issues are a bulb not fully seated).
Step 8: Reinstall the wheel-well liner and wheel
- Reposition the liner and reinstall clips using the trim clip removal tool (press the body in first, then press the center pin).
- Reinstall any screws using the 10mm socket and 3/8" drive ratchet.
- Reinstall the wheel and hand-thread the lug nuts.
- Lower the car off the jack stands with the floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum).
- Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using the 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet: Torque to 113 Nm (83 ft-lbs).
Step 9: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat the same process for the other front turn signal.
- Tip: Replace in pairs for even brightness.
âś… After Repair
- Test left and right turn signals and hazards again.
- Confirm the bulb flashes at a normal speed (very fast flashing usually means a bulb is out).
- Check that the wheel-well liner is secured and not rubbing the tire.
