🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Bulb Replacement

Your Sierra uses a replaceable front turn signal bulb in each headlamp assembly. The job is simple: access the bulb socket from behind the headlight, twist it out, swap the bulb, and reinstall. Replace both sides if the other bulb is dim or aging.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the bulbs cool before touching them.
  • Do not touch the glass of a new halogen bulb with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
  • If you need extra room, disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm wrench. A negative cable is the black battery cable.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm wrench
  • Flat-blade trim tool
  • Mechanic gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on a flat surface and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlights, parking lights, and ignition off.
  • Open the hood and locate the back side of the headlamp assembly.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the bulb socket

  • Open the hood and find the rear of the headlamp assembly on the side you are working on.
  • If room is tight, use a Flat-blade trim tool to gently move any loose cover or retainer aside. Do not force anything.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking tabs.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Use your hand to twist the bulb socket counterclockwise until it unlocks.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
  • If the socket is stuck, wiggle it gently while pulling. Do not pry hard.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Twist the old bulb out of the socket and install the new front turn signal bulb.
  • Make sure the bulb is fully seated in the socket.
  • If the bulb has an offset base, line it up correctly before twisting it in.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
  • There is no torque spec for this step.

Step 5: Test the turn signal

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Activate the turn signal on the side you replaced.
  • Check that the front bulb flashes normally and that the dash indicator is working.

✅ After Repair

  • Test both front turn signals, hazard flashers, and parking lights.
  • If the new bulb does not light, recheck the socket orientation and bulb seating.
  • If the turn signal flashes very fast, the bulb may not be seated or the wrong bulb type was installed.
