🔧 Civic - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Civic’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housings. You’ll access the bulb sockets from behind the headlights, swap the bulbs, and then test the signals to confirm proper operation.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • 🛑 Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
  • 🛑 Wear gloves—bulbs and metal edges can cut fingers.
  • 🛑 Do not touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
  • 🛑 Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb swap.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flat trim tool
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • 📌 Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • 📌 Open the hood and support it securely.
  • 📌 Have your flashlight ready—the bulb socket is easier to spot with extra light.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the turn signal socket behind the headlight

  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly (from inside the engine bay).
  • Find the turn signal bulb socket (it has wires going to a twist-lock base).

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Grip the socket firmly by hand (use nitrile gloves for grip).
  • Rotate the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
  • Twist first, then pull—don’t force it.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb from the socket

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a wedge-fit bulb).
  • If it’s stuck, use the small flat trim tool gently to help pry while pulling.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, push the new 7440A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Make sure the bulb sits straight and doesn’t wobble.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket into the headlight housing

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight opening.
  • Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–5 for the other front turn signal bulb.
  • Replacing in pairs keeps brightness even.

âś… After Repair

  • âś… Turn the ignition to ON and test the left and right turn signals.
  • âś… Turn on the hazard lights and walk around the car to confirm both front signals flash evenly.
  • âś… If a new bulb doesn’t work, remove the socket and re-seat the bulb fully, then re-test.
