šŸ”§ Sportage - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Sportage’s front turn signal bulb sits in the back of the headlamp housing. The job is mostly about gaining access, then swapping the bulb without touching the glass.

Quick question (so I guide you correctly): Are your front turn signals a replaceable bulb (you can twist a socket out), or are they LED (no removable bulb)?

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the lights OFF and let the headlamp cool before touching anything.
  • āš ļø Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • āš ļø If working through the fender liner, keep the key away and use wheel chocks so the SUV can’t roll.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" drive ratchet
  • Floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Qty: 1 Replace in pairs if possible.
  • Plastic push clips (fender liner clips) - Qty: 2-6 Optional, in case any break.

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the steering wheel: full left to access the right side; full right to access the left side.
  • If you can’t comfortably reach, plan to access through the fender liner (Method B below).

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb location

  • Turn the hazard lights on briefly and walk to the front to see which lamp section is flashing.
  • Turn hazards OFF before you start working.

Step 2 (Method A): Try access from the engine bay first

  • Open the hood and use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp on the side you’re replacing.
  • Find the turn signal socket: it will be a twist-lock socket going into the headlamp housing.
  • Rotate the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out. Twist, then pull—don’t pry.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, pull the bulb straight out of the socket (or twist/pull depending on the bulb base).
  • If it’s stuck, gently wiggle it—do not use pliers on the glass.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Install the new amber bulb into the socket the same way the old one came out.
  • Do not touch the bulb glass; use nitrile gloves.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing and rotate clockwise until it locks.
  • Turn the hazard lights ON to confirm the turn signal works and flashes normally.

Step 6 (Method B): If you can’t reach, access through the fender liner

  • Chock the rear wheels using wheel chocks.
  • Lift the front corner with a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) and support it with jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
  • Remove the small access section of the fender liner (or loosen the liner edge) using a trim clip removal tool, Phillips screwdriver, and 10mm socket as needed.
  • Reach behind the headlamp, twist the turn signal socket out by hand, then repeat Steps 3–5.

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify left and right turn signals and hazards flash at a normal speed.
  • If it flashes fast, the bulb may be incorrect, not seated, or there may be another bulb out on that side.
  • Make sure the socket is fully locked to keep moisture out of the headlamp.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $80-$180 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $10-$40 (parts only)

You Save: $70-$140 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.5-1.0 hours.
