🔧 Wrangler - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Wrangler’s front turn signal bulbs sit in the front grille lamp housings. Replacement is quick: you’ll access the bulb socket from behind the grille area (under the hood), swap the bulb, and test the signals.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🧯 Turn ignition OFF and switch all exterior lights OFF before starting.
- 🧤 Let the bulbs cool if they were recently on; they can be hot.
- 🧼 Keep bulb glass clean; oils can shorten bulb life.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

- Safety glasses

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and remove the key.
- 🔦 Open the hood and have your flashlight ready so you can see behind the grille.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the correct side
- Turn the ignition ON briefly and activate the turn signal you’re replacing (left or right), then turn ignition OFF.
- Use a flashlight to locate the matching bulb socket behind that front grille lamp.
Step 2: Access the front turn signal bulb socket
- Open the hood and stand at the front of your Wrangler.
- Reach down behind the front grille turn-signal lamp housing on the side you’re replacing.
- If your hand space is tight, use a plastic trim tool (specialty) to gently move any nearby wiring loom aside (do not pry on the lamp lens).
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grab the bulb socket and rotate it about a quarter-turn counterclockwise by hand until it unlocks.
- Pull the socket straight out of the lamp housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Remove the old bulb by pulling it straight out of the socket (it’s a wedge-base bulb, meaning it just pulls out—no twisting).
- Push the new front turn signal/parking light bulb (amber 3157/3157NA type) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you touch the glass, wipe clean.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the lamp housing, lining up the tabs.
- Twist the socket clockwise about a quarter-turn by hand until it locks snugly (do not overtighten).
Step 6: Repeat on the other side (recommended)
- Replace the bulb on the opposite front lamp using the same steps to keep brightness/color matched.
✅ After Repair
- 🔁 Turn ignition ON and test: left turn, right turn, hazards, and parking lights.
- 👀 Walk around the front and verify both sides blink at a normal speed (fast blinking usually means a bulb isn’t seated or is the wrong type).
- 🧾 If one side still doesn’t work, re-check the socket is fully twisted/locked and the bulb is fully pushed in.
