šŸ”§ Sorento - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Sorento’s front turn signal is either a replaceable bulb inside the headlamp housing, or an LED module that isn’t serviceable as a ā€œbulb.ā€ I’ll walk you through the bulb-style replacement, and I’ll also tell you what to look for if yours is LED.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • āš ļø Let the headlamp cool before touching it (hot bulb/housing can burn you).
  • āš ļø Do not touch a halogen bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
  • āš ļø If you must remove the battery for access, disconnect negative terminal first.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight
  • 10mm socket
  • 3/8" ratchet
  • 6" socket extension
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Small flathead screwdriver

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, match the removed bulb number) - Qty: 1
  • Dielectric grease - Qty: 1

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.
  • Turn the headlamps and hazards OFF.
  • Tip: Replace bulbs in pairs for even brightness.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm you have a replaceable bulb (not LED)

  • Look at the front turn signal area in the headlamp: if it’s an amber bulb that flashes, it’s replaceable.
  • If it’s an LED strip or LED segment with no bulb socket, it’s typically not a ā€œbulb replacementā€ job (the headlamp assembly or LED module is replaced as a unit).
  • A bulb socket is the plastic piece that twists out of the lamp and holds the bulb.

Step 2: Access the back of the headlamp

  • Use a flashlight to locate the rear of the headlamp housing on the side you’re replacing.
  • If your hands don’t fit, remove the closest intake duct/cover clips using a trim clip removal tool and/or small flathead screwdriver to gain room.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and find the turn signal socket (it will have a wiring connector going to it).
  • Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
  • If there’s a locking tab on the connector, press it with your thumb (or gently with a small flathead screwdriver) and unplug it.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (some bulbs wiggle out; don’t twist unless your bulb is a twist-lock style).
  • Read the bulb number printed on the bulb base and match it when buying the replacement.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Put on nitrile gloves and install the new bulb into the socket fully seated.
  • Apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal (not on the bulb glass).

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
  • Insert the socket into the headlamp and rotate clockwise to lock.
  • Turn ignition ON and test the turn signal and hazards. Confirm normal flash rate.

Step 7: Reinstall any ducts/covers you removed

  • Reinstall any intake ducting/covers and push clips back in by hand.
  • If you removed any 10mm fasteners, reinstall them using a 10mm socket, 3/8" ratchet, and 6" extension.

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed on both sides.
  • If it ā€œhyper-flashesā€ (very fast), re-check the bulb seating and connector, or confirm you installed the correct bulb type.
  • Check that the socket is fully locked to keep moisture out of the headlamp.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost
