How to Replace Front Turn Signal Bulb on a 2015-2017 Lexus NX200t (Wheel-Well Access)
Step-by-step DIY instructions with tools, parts, safety tips, and lug nut torque specs for 2015, 2016, 2017
Assumption: Your NX200t has serviceable front turn-signal bulbs accessed through the front wheel-well liner. If your front turn signals are LED (no removable bulb socket), the lamp/LED unit is not bulb-serviceable and replacement is typically the headlamp assembly or LED module.
🔧 NX - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll remove a small section of the front wheel-well liner to reach the turn-signal bulb socket behind the headlamp. Then you’ll swap the bulb, test it, and reassemble everything to keep water and dirt out.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Work on level ground and chock the rear wheels.
- 🛑 Support the SUV with jack stands before reaching into the wheel well.
- 🛑 Let the headlamp area cool if lights were recently on.
- 🛑 Avoid touching the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
- 🛑 Battery disconnect is not required for a bulb swap, but keep the light switch OFF while unplugging sockets.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
- Turn the headlight/turn signal switch OFF and remove the key/fob from the cabin.
- Gather a small container for clips/screws so nothing gets lost.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 21mm socket with a 1/2" drive breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn (do not remove them yet).
Step 2: Lift and support the front corner
- Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift the front corner on the side you’re replacing.
- Set the SUV onto jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Shake test the vehicle before working.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Remove the lug nuts with the 21mm socket and take the wheel off.
Step 4: Open the wheel-well liner access
- Use a trim clip removal tool to remove the plastic push-clips along the front portion of the fender liner.
- If equipped with screws, remove them using a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 3/8" drive ratchet.
- Gently pull the liner back just enough to get your hand to the back of the headlamp.
- Don’t crease the liner; bend it slowly.
Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to find the turn signal socket at the back of the headlamp.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in fit).
- Install the new bulb (same type as removed) by pushing it straight into the socket.
- Wear nitrile gloves so you don’t touch the bulb glass.
Step 7: Test the turn signal
- Reinsert the socket into the headlamp and twist clockwise to lock by hand.
- Turn the ignition to ON and switch on the turn signal to confirm it flashes normally.
- If it doesn’t work, remove the socket again and re-seat the bulb firmly.
Step 8: Reassemble the wheel well and wheel
- Push the fender liner back into place and reinstall clips with the trim clip removal tool (press clips in until fully seated).
- Reinstall the wheel and hand-start the lug nuts.
- Lower the SUV using the floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum), then torque the lug nuts in a star pattern using a 1/2" drive torque wrench (20–200 ft-lbs range).
- Torque to 140 Nm (103 ft-lbs)
✅ After Repair
- Verify the turn signal works on that side and that the hazard lights flash evenly.
- Check the fender liner is fully secured (loose liner can rub the tire).
- Do a quick night check to confirm the light is bright and amber.
