🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Altima’s front turn signal bulb sits in the headlight housing and is usually accessed through the front wheel-well liner. Replacing it is straightforward: open an access flap, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and test the signal.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working near the headlight wiring.
- ⚠️ If you lift the car, support it with jack stands before going into the wheel well.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440/7440NA type) - Qty: 1
- Fender liner push clips - Qty: 2-4
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on (this gives more hand room in the wheel well).
- If you want extra space, you can lift that front corner using a floor jack and support with jack stands.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Make room in the front wheel well
- Turn the wheel so the tire points away from the side you’re servicing.
- If lifting: place the floor jack at the front jacking point, raise the car, then support it with jack stands.
Step 2: Open the fender liner access
- Use a trim clip remover to pop out the plastic push clips holding the small access flap in the front portion of the fender liner.
- If your liner uses screws/bolts instead, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver #2 or 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Peel the liner/flap back carefully to see behind the headlight. Use a flashlight.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal socket on the back of the headlight housing (it will have a wiring connector going into a twist-lock socket).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
- Wiggle gently; don’t yank the wires.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new 7440/7440NA amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and close the liner
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing and rotate clockwise until it locks.
- Reposition the liner access flap and reinstall the clips using the trim clip remover (or reinstall fasteners with a Phillips screwdriver #2 / 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet).
Step 6: If you lifted the car, set it back down
- Raise slightly with the floor jack, remove the jack stands, then lower the car slowly.
- Remove the wheel chocks after the car is fully on the ground.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Turn the ignition to ON and test the left and right turn signals.
- ✅ Turn on the hazard lights and confirm the repaired side flashes at the same speed as the other side.
- ✅ If it “hyper-flashes” (fast blinking), recheck that the bulb is fully seated and the socket is locked in.
