- Park on level ground.
- Set the parking brake.
- Chock the rear wheels.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly before lifting.
- If you are replacing one side, it is best to replace both front struts as a pair.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the wheel nuts
- Use a 21mm socket to loosen the front wheel lug nuts while the tire is still on the ground.
- Do not remove them yet.
Step 2: Raise and support the vehicle
- Use a floor jack to lift the front of the vehicle at the proper lift point.
- Set the vehicle on jack stands.
- Remove the wheel with the 21mm socket.
Step 3: Free the sway bar link
- Spray the stabilizer link nut with penetrating oil.
- Use a 17mm socket to remove the sway bar link nut from the strut.
- Hold the stud with a matching wrench if it spins.
Step 4: Disconnect the brake line and ABS brackets
- Use a 14mm socket to remove the bracket bolts that hold the brake hose and ABS wire to the strut.
- Move the lines aside carefully. Do not stretch them.
Step 5: Mark alignment position
- Use a paint marker to mark the position of the strut-to-knuckle area.
- Keep marks as close as possible.
Step 6: Remove the strut from the knuckle
- Use a 19mm socket and breaker bar to remove the lower strut bolts and nuts.
- Support the knuckle so it does not pull on the CV axle.
Step 7: Remove the upper strut nuts
- Open the hood.
- Use a 14mm socket to remove the upper strut mount nuts.
- Hold the strut assembly with one hand while removing the last nut.
Step 8: Remove the strut assembly
- Lower the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
- If it hangs up, turn the knuckle slightly for clearance.
Step 9: Install the new strut assembly
- Put the new strut into the tower from below.
- Start the upper nuts by hand using a 14mm socket.
- Align the lower strut bracket with the knuckle.
Step 10: Reattach the strut to the knuckle
- Install the lower bolts and nuts using a 19mm socket.
- Torque to 184 Nm (136 ft-lbs).
Step 11: Reinstall the brake and ABS brackets
- Use a 14mm socket to reinstall the line brackets.
- Torque to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs).
Step 12: Reinstall the sway bar link
- Use a 17mm socket to reinstall the stabilizer link nut.
- Torque to 74 Nm (55 ft-lbs).
Step 13: Tighten the upper strut mount nuts
- Use a 14mm socket to tighten the upper mount nuts.
- Torque to 52 Nm (38 ft-lbs).
Step 14: Reinstall the wheel
- Install the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts with a 21mm socket.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft-lbs).
Step 15: Repeat on the other side
- Replace the opposite front strut as well.
- Always replace struts in pairs.

- Start the vehicle and listen for clunks or rubbing.
- Turn the steering wheel left and right to confirm nothing binds.
- Check that the brake hose and ABS wire are clipped in correctly.
- Get a professional wheel alignment as soon as possible.
