🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the front wheel
- Use a 21mm socket to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
- Set the wheel aside under the car as an extra safety backup.
Step 2: Free the brake hose and ABS wire
- Use a 12mm socket or trim clip tool to remove any bracket fasteners attached to the strut.
- Move the brake hose and ABS wire out of the way without bending them sharply.
Step 3: Disconnect the stabilizer link
- Use a 17mm socket on the sway bar link nut at the strut.
- If the stud spins, hold it with the correct hex key or matching wrench while removing the nut.
- Penetrating oil helps on rusty links.
Step 4: Mark the strut-to-knuckle position
- Use a paint marker to mark the alignment of the strut and knuckle.
- This helps keep the camber close enough to drive to an alignment shop.
Step 5: Remove the lower strut bolts
- Use a 22mm socket and breaker bar to remove the lower strut-to-knuckle bolts and nuts.
- Support the steering knuckle so it does not pull on the axle or brake hose.
- Torque on installation: 156 Nm (115 ft-lbs)
Step 6: Remove the upper strut mount nuts
- Open the hood and locate the top of the strut tower.
- Use a 14mm socket to remove the three upper mount nuts.
- Hold the strut from below with one hand so it does not drop suddenly.
- Torque on installation: 47 Nm (35 ft-lbs)
Step 7: Remove the strut assembly
- Lower the strut out of the wheel well and remove it from the car.
- If the new part is a complete assembly, compare it to the old one before installing.
Step 8: Install the new strut assembly
- Position the new strut in the tower and start the upper nuts by hand using a 14mm socket.
- Line up the lower mounting holes with the knuckle and install the bolts and nuts by hand.
- Torque the upper nuts to 47 Nm (35 ft-lbs).
- Torque the lower strut bolts to 156 Nm (115 ft-lbs).
Step 9: Reconnect the stabilizer link and brackets
- Use a 17mm socket to install and tighten the stabilizer link nut.
- Reinstall the brake hose and ABS wire brackets with a 12mm socket or trim clip tool.
- Torque the stabilizer link nut to 74 Nm (55 ft-lbs).
Step 10: Reinstall the wheel
- Put the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
- Lower the car and use a 21mm socket with a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts.
- Torque the lug nuts to 103 Nm (76 ft-lbs).

- Bounce each front corner lightly and listen for clunks.
- Check that the brake hose and ABS wire are routed correctly.
- Test drive slowly at first and listen for suspension noise.
- Get a professional wheel alignment as soon as possible.
