📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Chock the rear wheels using wheel chocks.
- Loosen (crack loose) the front lug nuts 1/2 turn using a 22mm lug nut socket and breaker bar before lifting.
- Lift the front using a floor jack and support the frame with jack stands.
- Turn the steering to give more hand room.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the front wheels
- Remove the lug nuts using a 22mm lug nut socket and ratchet.
- Remove both front wheels and set them aside.
Step 2: Remove the caliper from the bracket
- Locate the two caliper slide-pin bolts on the back of the caliper.
- Remove the slide-pin bolts using the correct metric socket and ratchet.
- Lift the caliper off the bracket. If it’s stuck, gently pry with a flathead screwdriver.
- Hang the caliper from the suspension using a brake caliper hanger hook (this prevents damage to the brake hose).
- Torque to 52 Nm (38 ft-lbs) when reinstalling the caliper slide-pin bolts.
Step 3: Remove the old pads and hardware
- Slide the pads out of the bracket by hand. If tight, use a flathead screwdriver carefully.
- Remove the stainless hardware clips from the bracket using a flathead screwdriver.
Step 4: Remove the caliper bracket
- Remove the two large caliper bracket bolts using a breaker bar (1/2") and the correct metric socket.
- Remove the bracket and set it aside.
- Torque to 250 Nm (184 ft-lbs) when reinstalling the caliper bracket bolts.
Step 5: Remove the rotor
- Pull the rotor straight off the hub.
- If the rotor is rust-stuck, spray the hub area with brake cleaner spray, then tap the rotor hat with a dead-blow hammer to free it.
- Clean the hub face using a wire brush so the new rotor sits flat.
Step 6: Install the new rotor
- Clean the new rotor faces with brake cleaner spray to remove shipping oil.
- Place the rotor onto the hub.
- To keep it from wobbling, hand-thread one lug nut backward (flat side toward the rotor) using your hand, then snug with a 22mm lug nut socket.
Step 7: Prep the bracket and install new pad hardware
- Clean the pad “rails” (where clips sit) using a wire brush.
- Install the new hardware clips into the bracket by hand.
- Apply a thin film of brake caliper slide pin grease (silicone) to the pad-to-clip contact points only.
- Keep grease off rotor and pad friction surfaces.
Step 8: Reinstall the caliper bracket
- Reinstall the bracket over the rotor using the original bolts and a metric socket with ratchet.
- Final-tighten with a torque wrench: Torque to 250 Nm (184 ft-lbs).
Step 9: Compress the caliper piston
- Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap under the hood (this helps the piston retract).
- Place an old pad against the piston face, then slowly compress the piston using a large C-clamp.
- Go slowly and watch the reservoir so it doesn’t overflow.
Step 10: Install the new pads
- Install the inner and outer pads into the bracket by hand.
- Make sure the pads slide freely in the hardware clips.
Step 11: Reinstall the caliper
- Position the caliper over the new pads and rotor.
- Install the caliper slide-pin bolts using the correct metric socket and ratchet.
- Final-tighten with a torque wrench: Torque to 52 Nm (38 ft-lbs).
Step 12: Repeat on the other front side
- Repeat Steps 2 through 11 on the other front wheel.
- Always replace pads and rotors in pairs.
Step 13: Reinstall wheels and torque lug nuts
- Reinstall the wheels and hand-thread all lug nuts.
- Lower the truck until the tires just touch the ground.
- Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench and 22mm lug nut socket: Torque to 176 Nm (130 ft-lbs).
- Fully lower the truck and remove the floor jack and jack stands.

- With the engine OFF, pump the brake pedal 10-15 times until it feels firm.
- Check brake fluid level and top off only if needed.
- Start the engine and confirm the pedal stays firm.
- Test at low speed first. Make sure it stops straight with no pulling.
- Brake bed-in (break-in): do 8-10 moderate stops from 40 mph to 10 mph, with cooling time between stops. Avoid hard panic stops for the first 200 miles.
- Re-check for leaks, odd smells, or abnormal noises after the first drive.
