- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
- Loosen the front lug nuts slightly before lifting.
- Open the hood and check the brake fluid level. It may rise when you compress the caliper pistons.
- Work on one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the front of the vehicle
- Use the floor jack to raise the front of the vehicle at the proper front center lift point.
- Support it with jack stands under the correct front support points.
- Remove both front wheels with the 21mm lug wrench or socket.
Step 2: Remove the brake caliper
- Use the 14mm socket and 17mm wrench to remove the caliper slide pin bolts.
- Lift the caliper off the bracket and hang it with a brake caliper hanger hook (specialty) or bungee cord.
- Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
Step 3: Remove the brake pads and hardware
- Pull the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
- Remove the pad clips and hardware.
- Use a flat blade screwdriver if the pads are stuck.
Step 4: Remove the caliper bracket
- Use the 17mm wrench or 14mm socket to remove the caliper bracket bolts.
- Remove the bracket from the steering knuckle.
- Torque on installation: 107 Nm (79 ft-lbs)
Step 5: Remove the rotor
- Pull the rotor straight off the hub.
- If it is stuck, use a flat blade screwdriver through the access holes or tap the rotor hat lightly with a hammer.
- Clean the hub face with a wire brush and brake cleaner until it is smooth and rust-free.
Step 6: Install the new rotor
- Spray the new rotor with brake cleaner to remove shipping oil.
- Install the rotor onto the hub.
- If needed, hold it in place with a wheel lug nut finger-tight.
Step 7: Install the caliper bracket and hardware
- Reinstall the caliper bracket using the original bolts.
- Use the torque wrench to tighten the bracket bolts.
- Torque to 107 Nm (79 ft-lbs)
- Install the new pad hardware clips from the brake hardware kit.
Step 8: Install the new brake pads
- Apply a small amount of brake caliper grease to the pad backing plates and contact points where the pads touch the hardware.
- Install the new inner and outer pads into the bracket.
- Do not grease the friction material.
Step 9: Compress the caliper piston and reinstall the caliper
- Use a C-clamp to slowly push the caliper piston back into the caliper bore.
- Make sure the brake fluid reservoir does not overflow.
- Reinstall the caliper over the new pads.
- Install the slide pin bolts and tighten them with the torque wrench.
- Torque to 34 Nm (25 ft-lbs)
Step 10: Reinstall wheels and lower the vehicle
- Install both front wheels by hand first with the 21mm lug wrench or socket.
- Lower the vehicle carefully with the floor jack.
- Torque the lug nuts in a star pattern with the torque wrench.
- Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft-lbs)

- Press the brake pedal slowly several times until it feels firm.
- Check the brake fluid level and top off only if needed.
- Test the brakes at low speed first.
- Listen for rubbing, scraping, or vibration.
- For the first 200 miles, avoid hard stops to help the new pads bed in.
- Drive gently at first.
