• Put the transmission in Park.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Loosen the front wheels

• Use a 21mm socket and breaker bar to loosen the front lug nuts about one turn each.
• Do not remove them yet.

Step 2: Raise and secure the vehicle

• Use the floor jack to lift the front of your Grand Cherokee at the approved lift point.
• Set the vehicle on jack stands and make sure it is stable before working.
• Remove both front wheels with the 21mm socket.

Step 3: Remove the caliper

• Use a 13mm socket to remove the caliper slide pin bolts.
• Lift the caliper off the bracket carefully.
• Hang the caliper with a bungee cord or caliper hanger.
• Never let it hang by the hose.

Step 4: Remove the brake pads and bracket

• Slide the brake pads out of the bracket.
• Use a 19mm socket to remove the caliper bracket bolts.
• Remove the bracket from the knuckle.

Step 5: Remove the rotor

• Remove the rotor retaining screw with a flat screwdriver if equipped.
• If the rotor is stuck, tap it evenly from the back with a rubber mallet or strike the hat section lightly.
• Remove the rotor from the hub.

Step 6: Clean and prep the hub

• Use a wire brush to clean rust from the hub face.
• Spray the hub and new rotor with brake cleaner to remove oil and dust.
• A clean hub prevents rotor wobble.

Step 7: Install the new rotor

• Install the new rotor onto the hub.
• If provided, install the rotor retaining screw and tighten snugly.

Step 8: Reinstall the caliper bracket

• Put the caliper bracket back on and start the bolts by hand.
• Use a 19mm socket to tighten the bracket bolts.
• Torque to 190 Nm (140 ft-lbs).

Step 9: Install the new pads

• Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the pad ears and contact points only.
• Install the new pads into the bracket.
• If the pad hardware is included, replace it now.

Step 10: Compress the caliper piston

• Use a C-clamp to slowly push the caliper piston back in.
• Compress it enough so the caliper fits over the new pads.
• Go slowly to avoid seal damage.

Step 11: Reinstall the caliper

• Set the caliper over the new pads.
• Use a 13mm socket to install and tighten the slide pin bolts.
• Torque to 35 Nm (26 ft-lbs).

Step 12: Reinstall the wheel

• Put the wheel back on and start the lug nuts by hand.
• Lower the vehicle carefully.
• Use a 21mm socket and torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern.
• Torque to 176 Nm (130 ft-lbs).

Step 13: Repeat on the other side

• Perform the same steps on the opposite front brake assembly.
