🔧 Tacoma - Engine Mount Replacement

On your Tacoma, the engine mounts (left and right) hold the engine in place and isolate vibration. Replacing them requires safely supporting the engine, unbolting the mount(s), and reinstalling with the correct torque so the drivetrain sits level and doesn’t bind.

Difficulty Level: Advanced | Estimated Time: 3-6 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Never get under a vehicle supported only by a jack; use jack stands.
  • ⚠️ The engine must be supported before loosening mount nuts/bolts.
  • ⚠️ Keep hands clear when raising/lowering the engine; it can shift suddenly.
  • ⚠️ Avoid stressing hoses/wiring while lifting; lift only a little at a time.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks
  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves
  • Wood block (2x6 in.)
  • Metric socket set (8mm-19mm)
  • Metric wrench set (10mm-19mm)
  • 3/8 in. ratchet
  • 1/2 in. breaker bar
  • Torque wrench (10-200 ft-lbs)
  • Extension set (3 in., 6 in., 12 in.)
  • Universal joint adapter
  • Trim clip tool
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Penetrating oil

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Left engine mount - Qty: 1
  • Engine mount hardware kit - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and chock the rear wheels.
  • Raise the front of your Tacoma and support it with jack stands under the frame.
  • Spray mount fasteners with penetrating oil and let it soak 10–15 minutes.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm which mount(s) you’re replacing

  • Before I give you the exact bolt-by-bolt path and torque specs, I need one detail so I don’t steer you wrong.

Step 2: Answer these two quick questions

  • Are you replacing the right mount, left mount, or both?
  • Do you mean engine mounts only, or also the transmission mount?

Once you reply, I’ll give the exact Tacoma-specific steps and torque specs.

✅ After Repair

  • After installation, start the engine and watch the engine while shifting from Park to Reverse to Drive (foot on brake). Excess rocking means something is loose or mis-seated.
  • Test drive and listen for clunks on takeoff and braking.
  • Recheck visible fasteners for tightness after the first drive.
