Assumption: This guide covers the bulb-type rear combination lamp bulbs on your Accord, not factory LED modules.

🔧 Taillight Bulbs - Replacement

Replacing both taillight bulbs is a simple rear-lamp service, but you need to work carefully so you do not crack the lens or twist the bulb socket. It is best to replace both sides together so the rear lighting stays even.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlight switch off before starting.
  • Let the rear lamps cool if they were recently on.
  • Handle bulbs by the base, not the glass.
  • Do not force the lamp housing or socket; plastic tabs can break easily.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Taillight bulb set - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the trunk.
  • Remove any trunk cargo or side trim items that block rear lamp access.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open trunk access

  • Open the trunk and locate the access area behind each taillight.
  • Move any cargo or trunk liner out of the way so you can reach the lamp housing.

Step 2: Remove the rear lamp access cover

  • Use a trim clip removal tool to release any plastic retainers on the trunk liner.
  • Pull back the liner enough to reach the taillight bulb sockets.
  • Keep the clips in a small tray.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket

  • Grip the bulb socket and rotate it counterclockwise by hand to unlock it from the taillight housing.
  • Pull the socket straight out once it releases.
  • If there is a tight access bracket, use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove it first.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Push the bulb in slightly and turn it counterclockwise to release it from the socket.
  • Pull the bulb straight out.
  • Inspect the socket for heat damage or corrosion.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Insert the new bulb into the socket and turn it clockwise until it locks.
  • Make sure it sits fully in place.
  • Handle the bulb by the base only.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket

  • Align the socket tabs with the housing.
  • Insert the socket and turn it clockwise until it seats fully.
  • Make sure it locks snugly and does not wobble.

Step 7: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat the same process for the opposite taillight bulb.
  • Replace both bulbs together so the brightness matches.

Step 8: Reassemble and test

  • Reinstall the trunk liner and any clips you removed.
  • Close the trunk.
  • Turn on the parking lights and brakes to verify both bulbs work.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both taillights, brake lights, and turn signals if the bulb shares a housing.
  • Make sure the lens is seated correctly and there are no gaps.
  • If a bulb does not light, remove it and confirm it is fully locked in the socket.
