How to Replace Both Taillight Bulbs on a 2016 Toyota Tundra
Step-by-step instructions with tools, parts, torque specs, and safety tips
🔧 Taillight Bulbs - Bulb Replacement
On your Tundra, the rear lamp bulbs are replaced from inside the taillight housing after removing the assembly from the bed side. This is a simple job, but take care not to crack the lens or cross-thread the bulb sockets.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition off and switch the lighting switch off before starting.
- Let the bulbs cool before touching them; hot bulbs can burn your fingers.
- Use only the parking brake and keep the truck on level ground.
- If your taillamps are factory LED units, the bulb itself is not serviceable and the lamp assembly must be replaced.
- No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

- Make sure the bulb sits fully seated and straight.
Step 5: Reinstall the sockets and taillight

- Have someone verify the turn signals if your bulbs are shared with that function.
