Step-by-step trunk access guide with required tools, bulb tips, and taillight housing reinstall torque specs

š§ Cruze - Taillight Bulb Replacement
Youāll remove each taillight housing from inside the trunk, swap the bulb(s), then reinstall the housing and test the lights. This is usually straightforward, but go slow to avoid breaking the plastic lamp or dropping hardware inside the trunk panels.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
Assumption: Replacing the outer tail/brake bulbs on both left and right taillights (not the center high-mount stop lamp).
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working on bulbs.
- ā ļø If any bulb was recently on, let it cool 5-10 minutes.
- ā ļø Donāt touch glass bulbs with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
- ā ļø Support the taillight housing as you remove it so it doesnāt fall and crack.

- āBulb socketā = the plastic holder the bulb locks into.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (or twist slightly if itās a twist-lock style).
- Install the new bulb fully into the socket.
- Do not touch the glass portion of the bulb; use nitrile gloves.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and taillight housing
- Insert the socket back into the housing and twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Align the housing locating pins with the body grommets, then press the housing straight in until it seats evenly.

- Reposition the trunk liner and snap the access cover back in using the plastic trim removal tool.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1-5 for the opposite taillight.
