- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the liftgate.
- Make sure the light switch is OFF.
- Keep the liftgate fully open.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the rear lamp access area
- Open the liftgate and locate the rear access covers on the inside edge of each taillight area.
- Use a trim removal tool to gently pop off the access cover.
- Set the cover aside.
Step 2: Remove the taillight bulb holder
- Reach into the opening and locate the bulb holder for the taillight bulb.
- Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise by hand, or use a Phillips screwdriver if a small retaining screw is present on your lamp assembly.
- Pull the bulb holder straight out of the housing.
Step 3: Replace the bulb
- Remove the old bulb from the socket.
- Install the new bulb in the same orientation.
- Make sure it sits fully in the socket.
- Do not force the bulb.
Step 4: Reinstall the bulb holder
- Insert the bulb holder back into the lamp housing.
- Twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
- If any screw was removed, reinstall it with a Phillips screwdriver and snug it down.
Step 5: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat the same steps on the opposite taillight.
- Replace both bulbs even if only one is out.
Step 6: Test the lights
- Turn the parking lights on and check both taillights.
- Press the brake pedal and confirm both sides brighten properly.
- Check the turn signals if your bulb assembly shares the same housing.

- Check that the lens is seated correctly and the access covers are installed.
- If a bulb does not work, recheck the socket seating and bulb orientation.
