🔧 Taillight Bulbs - Replacement
On your Rogue, the rear lamp assembly may use replaceable bulbs or sealed LED lighting depending on the build. If yours uses bulbs, you can replace both rear taillight bulbs from inside the cargo area without removing the whole lamp assembly.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- Let the bulbs cool before touching them. Halogen bulbs get very hot.
- Do not touch new bulb glass with bare fingers. Oil can shorten bulb life.
- If your Rogue has LED rear lamps, the bulb cannot be replaced separately and the lamp assembly must be replaced instead.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

- Keep the cargo trim clips organized.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the cargo access area
- Open the rear liftgate.
- Move cargo items away from both rear lamp areas so you can reach the trim panels.
Step 2: Remove the side trim access cover
- Use a trim panel tool to gently pop off the rear cargo-side access cover behind the taillight.
- If there is a small fastener or retainer, remove it carefully and set it aside.
- Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
Step 3: Remove the taillight bulb holder
- Reach behind the lamp and locate the bulb holder.
- Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise by hand or with a 10mm socket only if a retaining fastener is present on your lamp setup.
- Pull the bulb holder straight out.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Remove the old bulb from the holder.
- Install the new bulb by pushing it into the socket until fully seated.
- Do not force the bulb. The tabs must line up correctly.
Step 5: Reinstall the bulb holder
- Insert the bulb holder back into the lamp housing.
- Twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
- If your lamp uses a retaining bolt, snug it with the 10mm socket.
- Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs) if a fastener is used.
Step 6: Test the light
- Turn the parking lights or headlights on.
- Check that both rear taillights work.
- If one bulb does not light, remove it and recheck the socket seating.
Step 7: Reinstall the trim cover
- Reinstall the cargo-side access cover by pressing it back into place.
- Make sure all clips snap fully in.
✅ After Repair
