• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the taillight bulb area (trunk)

• Use a flashlight to locate the access cover behind the taillight (left side for driver, right side for passenger).
• If your trunk liner uses clips, remove them with a trim clip removal tool.
• Peel back the carpet/liner to expose the bulb sockets.

Step 2: Remove the taillight bulb socket

• Find the socket for the tail/brake bulb (usually the larger socket going into the taillight housing).
• Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand.
• Pull the socket straight out of the housing.
• Tip: Don’t pull on the wires.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

• Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (some bulbs may need a slight wiggle).
• Put on nitrile gloves and install the new bulb fully into the socket.
• If the bulb seems stuck, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (light pressure only).

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

• Insert the socket back into the taillight housing, making sure it seats evenly.
• Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it stops (snug by hand; do not overtighten).

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

• Move to the other side of the trunk and repeat Steps 1-4 to replace the second taillight bulb.

Step 6: Reinstall trunk liner and clips

• Reposition the trunk liner.
• Reinstall any clips you removed by pressing them back in by hand (use the trim clip removal tool to align if needed).

• Turn on the headlights and confirm both rear tail lights are on.
• Press the brake pedal (or have a helper press it) and confirm both brake lights get brighter.
• If a bulb doesn’t work, remove the socket and re-seat the bulb; make sure it’s fully pushed in.
