🔧 Taillight Bulbs - Replacement
Assumption: Your Beetle has bulb-type rear lamps, not LED modules. If the rear lamps are LED, the bulbs are not serviceable and the complete lamp assembly must be replaced.
This job is done from inside the cargo area by removing the rear lamp access covers and twisting out the bulb holders. Replace both sides together so the rear lighting stays matched and reliable.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob before starting.
- Let the bulbs cool completely before touching them.
- Do not touch glass bulbs with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- Keep the cargo area dry and clean so dirt does not get into the lamp housing.
- No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

- Use a Phillips screwdriver if retaining screws are present, then remove the bulb holder from the lamp housing.
- Twist the bulb holder counterclockwise by hand if it uses a twist-lock style.

Step 5: Reinstall the bulb holder
- Align the bulb holder tabs with the lamp housing.
