📋 Before You Begin

• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Open the rear cargo doors to access the taillight screws.
• Lay a towel on the bumper edge.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the left taillight screws

• Open the rear doors and locate the two screws on the inboard edge of the left taillight (the edge closest to the center of the van).
• Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws.
• If your screws are star-shaped instead, use a Torx T15 screwdriver to remove them.
• Set the screws somewhere safe.

Step 2: Pull the taillight housing out

• Grip the taillight housing with both hands and pull straight rearward.
• If it feels stuck, use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry at the outer edge (this tool is a non-marring wedge used to pop trim loose without scratching paint).
• Don’t yank sideways—there are alignment pins that can break.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket

• Find the socket for the taillight bulb (the stop/tail bulb is typically the dual-filament bulb in the main red lens area).
• Twist the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it out.
• Use a small flashlight if you need to see the socket tabs.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

• Put on clean nitrile gloves so you don’t get skin oil on the bulb.
• Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
• Push the new 3157 bulb straight in until fully seated.
• Add a tiny smear of dielectric grease to the socket seal (not on the bulb glass).
• Match the bulb base; don’t force it.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and housing

• Insert the socket back into the housing and twist clockwise to lock.
• Line up the housing’s guide pins with the body holes, then press the housing straight in until it seats flush.
• Reinstall the two screws using the same tool you removed them with (#2 Phillips screwdriver or Torx T15 screwdriver).
• Snug the screws firmly by hand—do not over-tighten (the housing can crack).

Step 6: Repeat on the right side

• Repeat Steps 1–5 on the right taillight so both sides match in brightness and color.
• Replace bulbs in pairs for even lighting.

✅ After Repair

• Turn the headlights ON and confirm both tail lights glow evenly.
• Press the brake pedal and confirm both brake lights get noticeably brighter.
• Turn on hazard flashers and confirm both rear turn signals flash normally.
• If a bulb doesn’t work, remove it and re-seat the bulb and socket, then re-test.
