🔧 Canyon - Tail Lamp Bulb Replacement (Both Sides)
On your Canyon, each rear tail lamp assembly comes off with two fasteners, then you twist the bulb socket out from the back. You’ll replace the bulb(s) and reinstall the lamp so it seals properly and doesn’t let water in.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🔸 Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
- 🔸 Let bulbs cool before touching; they can be hot.
- 🔸 Don’t touch new bulb glass with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Rear tail/stop/turn bulb (match your existing bulb) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease (optional) - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and put the shifter in Park.
- Open the tailgate so you can access the tail lamp fasteners.
- If you’re not sure which bulb is out, have a helper press the brake / turn signal while you watch.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the left tail lamp assembly
- Open the tailgate and locate the two fasteners on the inboard edge of the left tail lamp.
- Remove both fasteners using a Torx T15 screwdriver (or a Phillips #2 screwdriver if your truck has Phillips screws).
- Pull the tail lamp straight rearward to release the locating clip(s). Use a trim removal tool (plastic) if it’s stuck. Pull straight back, not sideways.
Step 2: Remove the bulb socket
- From the back of the lamp, find the socket for the failed function (most commonly the tail/stop/turn).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out of the housing.
Step 3: Replace the bulb
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a wedge-style push-in bulb).
- Install the new bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you have it, apply a very small amount of dielectric grease to the socket seal (not the bulb glass).
Step 4: Reinstall the socket and lamp
- Insert the socket back into the housing and twist clockwise until it locks.
- Line up the lamp’s locating pin/clip and press the lamp straight into place by hand.
- Reinstall the two fasteners using the Torx T15 screwdriver (or Phillips #2 screwdriver) and snug them evenly. Don’t overtighten—plastic can crack.
Step 5: Repeat on the right side
- Repeat Steps 1–4 for the right tail lamp.
Step 6: Confirm operation
- Turn on parking lights and confirm both tail lamps glow.
- Press brake pedal (helper) and confirm both brake lights work.
- Test left and right turn signals and hazards.
âś… After Repair
- If a new bulb still doesn’t work, swap it to the other side to double-check the bulb isn’t defective.
- Make sure each bulb socket is fully locked; a loose socket can cause intermittent lighting and water leaks.
- Confirm the lamp sits flush against the body all the way around.

Quick check (so I send the exact bulb set):
