š§ RX350 - Taillight Bulb Replacement (Both Sides)
On your RX350, the ātaillightā area includes a few different lights. The most common replaceable bulbs are the rear turn signal and sometimes the reverse; the tail/brake light is typically LED and not a simple bulb replacement (it requires replacing the lamp assembly if it fails).
This guide shows how to replace the left + right rear turn signal bulbs, which is what most people mean by āboth taillight bulbs.ā
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn the ignition OFF and switch all exterior lights OFF before starting.
- ā ļø Let the bulbs cool for 5-10 minutes; they can get hot.
- ā ļø Wear gloves; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ā ļø Support the liftgate securely if youāll be working near it.

šØ Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open the access door in the cargo area (left side)
- Use a flashlight to locate the small access panel/door behind the taillight area on the left side of the cargo trim.
- Use a trim panel removal tool (plastic) to gently pop the access door open.
- If thereās a tight clip, use a small flathead screwdriver carefully and pry a little at a time. Go slow to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket (left side)
- Reach through the access opening and find the bulb socket for the turn signal.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle while pullingādonāt yank on the wires.
Step 3: Replace the bulb (left side)
- Wear nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new 7440A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 4: Reinstall the socket and test (left side)
- Insert the socket back into the housing and rotate it clockwise to lock.
- Turn the ignition ON and turn on the left turn signal to confirm it flashes normally.
- Turn the ignition OFF after the test.
Step 5: Repeat on the right side
- Move to the right cargo-side access panel and use the same process with the trim panel removal tool (plastic).
- Remove the socket by turning counterclockwise, replace the bulb, then reinstall by turning clockwise.
- Test the right turn signal to confirm normal flash speed.
Step 6: Refit the access doors
- Snap the access panels/doors back into place by pressing evenly with your hands.
- Make sure the trim sits flush and nothing is pinched.
ā After Repair
- Turn on hazards and walk around to confirm both rear turn signals flash evenly.
- If the new bulb still doesnāt work, the socket may not be fully lockedāremove and reinstall it.
- If your tail/brake light is out (not the blinking turn signal), itās usually an LED lamp assembly issue, not a bulb.
