🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Replacement
This procedure covers replacing both front headlight bulbs on your Accord. On this trim, the factory low beams are HID bulbs, so handle them carefully and avoid touching the glass if applicable. Assumption: you mean the low-beam headlight bulbs.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1-2 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Headlight systems can carry high voltage. Turn the lights off before starting.
- If your bulbs are HID, do not touch the glass with bare hands. Skin oils shorten bulb life.
- Let the headlamp housings cool before working near them.
- Battery disconnect is recommended when working on HID headlight wiring.
- Keep the ignition off and the key far from the vehicle so the lights do not power up unexpectedly.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket
- 1/4-inch ratchet
- 1/4-inch extension
- Trim panel tool
- Flat-blade screwdriver

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlight switch to OFF and remove the key/fob from the car.
- Open the hood and let the lamps cool if the car was just driven.
- If replacing HID bulbs, disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Disconnect power
- Use a 10mm socket to disconnect the negative battery cable if your Accord has HID low beams.
- Move the cable aside so it cannot spring back and touch the terminal.
Step 2: Access the back of the headlamp
- Open the hood fully.
- Reach behind the headlight housing from the engine bay.
- If access is tight, use a trim panel tool to remove any nearby clips or covers that block your hand.
Step 3: Remove the bulb cover
- Twist the rear dust cover counterclockwise by hand.
- If it is stuck, use a flat-blade screwdriver gently at the edge.
- Set the cover aside in a clean place.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Unplug the bulb connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight back.
- Use your hand or needle-nose pliers only if needed to release the bulb retainer.
- Pull the bulb straight out.
- Do not twist the bulb glass.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Insert the new bulb into the socket in the same orientation as the old one.
- Seat it fully and lock the retainer.
- Reconnect the electrical plug until it clicks.
Step 6: Reinstall the dust cover
- Install the rear cover by hand and twist it clockwise until snug.
- Make sure the seal sits evenly all the way around.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Use the same steps on the opposite headlight.
- Replace both bulbs as a pair so color and brightness match.
Step 8: Restore power and test
- Reconnect the negative battery cable with a 10mm socket.
- Turn the headlights on and confirm both bulbs illuminate.
- Check that the beam pattern looks even on both sides.
✅ After Repair
- Test low beams, high beams, and turn signals.
- If one side does not work, recheck the connector and bulb seating.
- Make sure the dust covers are fully sealed to keep moisture out.
- If your new bulbs look dim or flicker, the connector may not be fully locked in.
