How to Replace Both Low Beam Headlight Bulbs on a 2016 Toyota Tundra
Step-by-step instructions with tools, H11 bulb info, safety tips, and reinstall guidance
Which headlight bulbs are you replacing on your Tundra: low beam or high beam?
🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Low Beam Bulb Replacement
Replacing both low beam bulbs restores nighttime visibility and keeps the light output even from side to side. On your Tundra, the job is done from the engine bay with limited space, so careful hand access matters more than force.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Let the headlights cool before touching them. Bulbs and housings can get hot.
- Do not touch the glass of halogen bulbs with bare fingers. Skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- If you will unplug wiring with the battery connected, work carefully to avoid shorting connectors.
- If your hands are large, use a clean glove or nitrile glove for better grip and less bulb contamination.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the back of the headlight housings
- Open the hood and locate the rear of each low beam headlight housing.
- Use the flashlight to find the low beam bulb socket at the back of the headlamp.
- On some trucks, you may need to move or remove the air intake duct or reservoir cover for extra room. Use the 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet if needed.
Step 2: Remove the old bulb
- Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
- Press the connector lock tab if the wiring harness needs to separate from the bulb.
- Remove the bulb carefully. Do not force it.
Step 3: Install the new bulb
- Put on nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Insert the new H11 low beam bulb into the housing.
- Twist the socket clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Do not touch the glass.
Step 4: Repeat on the other side
- Use the same process on the opposite headlight.
- Make sure both bulbs are fully seated and locked in place.
Step 5: Reinstall any removed parts
- If you removed the intake duct or cover, reinstall it using the 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet.
- Snap any trim clips back into place with the trim clip tool.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and confirm both low beams work.
- Check that both sides look equally bright and aimed the same.
