🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open access to the headlight bulbs
- Open the hood and locate the back of each headlight housing.
- On the RAV4, the bulb is reached from behind the headlamp assembly.
- Use a flashlight to see the bulb clips.
Step 2: Remove the electrical connector
- Press the locking tab on the bulb connector and pull it straight off the bulb.
- If the connector is tight, use needle-nose pliers gently on the connector body, not the wires.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Twist the bulb counterclockwise about a quarter turn to unlock it.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the housing.
- Do not force the bulb.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Put on gloves and handle the new bulb by the base only.
- Insert the new bulb into the housing in the same position as the old one.
- Twist it clockwise until it locks.
Step 5: Reconnect power and repeat on the other side
- Push the electrical connector onto the bulb until it clicks.
- Repeat the same steps on the other side.
- Replace both bulbs together for even brightness.
Step 6: Test the headlights
- Turn the headlights on and verify both low beams work.
- Check that the beam pattern looks even.
- If one side does not light, unplug and reseat the connector.
