šŸ”§ Gladiator - Headlight Bulb Replacement

On your Gladiator, headlight bulb replacement is usually done from the engine bay by removing the bulb from the back of the headlight housing. Replacing both bulbs at the same time helps keep light color and brightness even left-to-right.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn lights OFF and let bulbs cool 10+ minutes (they get very hot).
  • āš ļø Wear gloves—skin oil on the glass can shorten bulb life.
  • āš ļø Do not touch the glass part of a halogen bulb; hold it by the base.
  • āš ļø If your Gladiator has factory LED headlights, the ā€œbulbā€ is not serviceable (you replace the full headlamp assembly).

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Headlight bulb (H13/9008 halogen, dual-beam) - Qty: 2
  • Dielectric grease - Qty: 1

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift into 1st gear, and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch to OFF and remove the key.
  • Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the round dust cover on the back of each headlight.
  • Replace bulbs in pairs for matching brightness.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm you have serviceable ā€œbulbsā€

  • From the engine bay, look behind each headlight for a removable rear dust cap and a bulb connector.
  • If the back of the headlight is sealed with no removable bulb access, you likely have factory LED headlights (assembly replacement is required instead of a bulb swap).

Step 2: Remove the rear dust cover

  • Use your hands to twist the round dust cover counterclockwise and pull it off.
  • If it’s stuck, use a small flat-blade screwdriver gently at the edge to help start it.

Step 3: Disconnect the bulb electrical connector

  • Wear nitrile gloves.
  • Press the connector tab and pull the connector straight off the bulb base.
  • If it’s tight, wiggle while pulling—don’t yank the wires.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Grab the bulb base and rotate it counterclockwise (about 1/4 turn), then pull the bulb straight out.
  • Note the bulb’s alignment tabs so the new one goes in the same way.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Without touching the glass, insert the new H13/9008 halogen bulb into the housing in the same orientation as the old one.
  • Rotate clockwise to lock it in place.
  • If you touched the glass, clean with alcohol.

Step 6: Reconnect the connector and protect the connection

  • Add a tiny dab of dielectric grease inside the connector seal (not on the bulb glass).
  • Push the connector onto the bulb until it clicks/fully seats.

Step 7: Reinstall the dust cover

  • Reinstall the dust cover and twist clockwise until fully seated.
  • Make sure it seals all the way around to keep moisture out.

Step 8: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 2–7 for the other headlight.

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the headlights ON and verify both low and high beams work (H13/9008 is a dual-beam bulb).
  • Check that both dust covers are fully seated—this prevents fogging/condensation in the headlight.
  • If one side is out, recheck the connector seating and bulb lock-in position.
