š§ Tucson - Headlight Bulb Replacement (Both Sides)
I can walk you through replacing the headlight bulbs on your Tucson from inside the engine bay (no bumper removal on most trims). The exact steps and bulb type depend on whether your Tucson has halogen bulbs or LED headlamps.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn the lights OFF and let bulbs cool 10+ minutes (they get extremely hot).
- ā ļø Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oil shortens bulb life); use clean gloves.
- ā ļø Keep the key out of the vehicle while working near moving fans/belts.
- Battery disconnect is not required for halogen bulb replacement.

šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Before I finalize the exact bulb-type steps: Which headlight setup do you have?
- Do your headlights use a replaceable halogen bulb (thereās a round plastic dust cover on the back of the headlight), or are they LED headlamps (usually āLEDā marking and no removable bulb access)?
- Are you replacing the low beams, the high beams, or both?
If you answer those 2 items, Iāll give the exact bulb type and the correct steps.
Step 1: Access the back of the headlight (typical halogen setup)
- Use a flashlight to locate the rear of the headlight housing from the engine bay.
- If an intake snorkel/cover blocks access, remove the fasteners with a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and extension (1/4").
- If there are plastic push-clips, lift them with a trim clip removal tool.
- Reinstall 10mm fasteners later to Torque to 7-9 Nm (62-80 in-lbs).
Step 2: Remove the dust cover (halogen)
- Twist the round rear dust cover counterclockwise by hand (use nitrile gloves for grip) and pull it off.
- Set it aside where it wonāt collect dirt.
Step 3: Disconnect the bulb connector
- Press the connector tab and pull straight back by hand.
- If itās stubborn, gently assist with needle-nose pliers (donāt crush the connector).
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- If your bulb uses a twist-lock base, rotate the bulb counterclockwise and pull it out.
- If your bulb uses a spring clip, unhook the clip by hand (the spring clip is a metal latch that holds the bulb in place).
- Use a flashlight and note the bulbās alignment tabs before removal.
Step 5: Install the new bulb (donāt touch the glass)
- Put on nitrile gloves and handle the bulb only by the base.
- Install the bulb in the same orientation as the old one so the tabs seat fully.
- If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it with a shop towel before installing.
Step 6: Reconnect and reseal
- Push the connector on until it clicks by hand.
- Reinstall the dust cover and twist clockwise until fully seated (this keeps moisture out).
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1-6 for the opposite headlight.
- Replace bulbs in pairs for matching color.
ā After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and confirm both sides work on the setting you replaced (low or high).
- Check that the dust covers are fully seated to prevent condensation inside the headlight.
- If a bulb doesnāt light, turn lights off and re-check the connector is fully clicked in.
