How to Replace Both Headlight Bulbs on a 2018 Buick Enclave (Low & High Beams)
Step-by-step DIY instructions with tools list, safety tips for halogen vs HID/LED, and final testing checks

🔧 Enclave - Headlight Bulb Replacement
On your Enclave, the exact replacement method depends on which headlamp system you have. Some versions use replaceable halogen bulbs, while others use HID/LED components that aren’t simple “bulb swaps.”
Difficulty Level: Beginner to Advanced | Estimated Time: 0.5-2.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn lights OFF and let the headlamp area cool before touching anything.
- ⚠️ Never touch a halogen bulb’s glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ If equipped with HID, the system can carry high voltage—do not open igniters/ballasts.
- ⚠️ If you’ll work near the radiator fan area, keep the key away so the fan can’t start unexpectedly.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- If your Enclave has HID headlamps, disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify what you’re replacing (quick check)
- Turn the headlights on and confirm which lamps are out: low beam, high beam, or both.
- Look at the headlamp housing: if it’s labeled LED or HID, the “bulb” may not be a simple replaceable halogen bulb.
- Tell me what the housing says.
Step 2: Access the rear of the headlamp (common access path)
- Use a flashlight to locate the rear cover(s) on the back of the headlamp assembly.
- If an air intake duct or cover blocks access, remove its fasteners using a 7mm socket and/or a trim clip removal tool.
Step 3: Remove the dust cover (if equipped)
- Twist the round dust cap counterclockwise by hand and remove it.
- If it’s tight, use nitrile gloves for better grip.
Step 4: Disconnect the bulb electrical connector
- Press the connector tab and pull straight back.
- If it’s stubborn, gently work it off by hand—don’t pull on the wires.
Step 5: Remove the bulb (halogen style)
- Twist the bulb counterclockwise and pull it straight out.
- Keep note of the bulb’s alignment tabs so the new one seats the same way.
Step 6: Install the new bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves and insert the new bulb without touching the glass.
- Twist clockwise until fully locked.
- Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
Step 7: Reassemble and repeat on the other side
- Reinstall the dust cover by hand (twist clockwise until snug).
- Reinstall any ducting/covers using a ratchet, extension (3 in), and 7mm socket.
- Repeat Steps 2–6 on the opposite headlamp.
Step 8: Function check
- Turn the headlights on and verify low beam and high beam operation.
- If you disconnected the battery, reconnect it using a 10mm socket.
âś… After Repair
- Confirm both sides match in color and brightness.
- If one side still doesn’t work, swap the new bulb side-to-side to rule out a bad bulb.
- Make sure dust caps are sealed to prevent moisture inside the headlamp.
