🔧 TITAN - Headlight Bulb Replacement
On your TITAN, the headlight bulbs are serviced from inside the engine bay (behind each headlamp). The key is identifying whether you’re replacing the low beams, the high beams, or both—then swapping the bulb without touching the glass.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the headlights cool first; bulbs get extremely hot.
- ⚠️ Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Keep the key off and lights off while unplugging connectors.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required, but you can disconnect the negative terminal if you want extra safety.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" socket extension
- Flathead screwdriver
- Trim clip removal tool
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Headlight bulb (Low beam) - Qty: 2
- Headlight bulb (High beam) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease (optional) - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to look behind each headlamp for the bulb socket(s).
- Quick confirm (so I guide you perfectly): Are you replacing the low beams only, or high beams too?
- Second quick confirm: Are your headlights halogen (more yellow) or LED (very white, usually with an LED module)?
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify the bulb you’re replacing
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- From behind the headlamp, locate the bulb socket(s): typically one socket is low beam and one is high beam.
- Tip: Compare left vs right side layout.
Step 2: Create working room (only if access is tight)
- If your hand can’t comfortably reach the bulb, remove any simple intake duct/cover in the way.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or trim clip removal tool to lift plastic clips.
- If there are small bolts, remove them with a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension.
Step 3: Unplug the bulb connector
- Press the locking tab on the connector and pull straight back.
- If it’s stubborn, wiggle gently while pulling—don’t yank the wires.
- Tip: A flashlight helps you see the lock tab.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise (about 1/8–1/4 turn) until it unlocks.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the headlamp housing.
- Keep the old bulb to match the new one (same connector and base).
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, insert the new bulb into the housing in the same orientation as the old one.
- Turn the bulb socket clockwise until it locks fully.
- If you’re using it, apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal area (not on the bulb glass). Tip: Helps prevent corrosion.
Step 6: Reconnect and test
- Plug the connector back in until it clicks.
- Turn the headlights on and verify the replaced light works.
- If it doesn’t light, turn lights off and re-check the connector is fully seated.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Replace the same bulb on the other headlamp so brightness and color match.
- Reinstall any ducts/covers you removed using the 10mm socket and clips with the trim clip removal tool.
âś… After Repair
- Turn on low beams and high beams and confirm both sides work.
- Look at the beam pattern against a wall at night; if something looks “off,” the bulb may not be fully seated/locked.
- Make sure any intake ducting/covers are secured (no loose parts in the engine bay).
