🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Replacement
Assumption: This guide covers both low-beam headlight bulbs on your Silverado.
Your Silverado’s front headlight bulbs are accessed from behind each headlamp assembly. On this truck, space is tight, so the job is mostly about careful access and reconnecting the bulbs correctly. If your truck is equipped with HID bulbs, treat the system as high voltage and handle the bulbs with extra care.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
- If equipped with HID headlamps, do not touch the glass bulb and do not power the system while disconnected.
- Let the bulbs cool before touching them. Hot bulbs can burn you.
- Keep the new bulbs clean. Oil from your fingers can shorten bulb life.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this repair, but it is a good idea to avoid turning the lights on while unplugged.

- Open the hood and make sure you have room to work at both headlamps.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear of the headlamp
- Open the hood and locate the back side of the headlamp assembly.
- Remove any nearby air duct or cover if it blocks access. Use a 7mm socket and ratchet if fasteners are present.
- Keep fasteners in a tray.
Step 2: Remove the old bulb
- Reach behind the headlamp and disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.
- Remove the bulb by turning it counterclockwise if it uses a twist-lock base, or release the retaining clip if equipped.
- Use a trim panel tool only if a cover or retainer needs gentle prying.
Step 3: Install the new bulb
- Compare the new bulb to the old one before installing it.
- Install the bulb in the same position and lock it into place. If it uses a twist-lock base, turn it clockwise until secure.
- Reconnect the electrical connector firmly.
- Do not touch the glass.
Step 4: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat the same removal and installation steps on the opposite headlight.
- Make sure both bulbs are seated the same way.
Step 5: Reassemble and test
- Reinstall any covers, ducts, or fasteners you removed.
- Turn the headlights on and check both low beams.
- If one side does not work, recheck the connector and bulb seating.
✅ After Repair
- Verify both headlights work on low beam and high beam if applicable.
- Check that the beam pattern looks even from the front of the truck.
- If the dash shows a warning message, recheck the bulb type and connector fit.
