How to Replace Both Headlight Bulbs on a 2015 Ram 1500
Step-by-step low-beam bulb replacement with tools, parts, safety tips, and torque specs
🔧 Headlight Bulb Replacement - Replacement
This guide covers replacing both front headlight bulbs on your Ram. I’m assuming you mean the low-beam bulbs, which are the most commonly replaced “headlight bulbs” on this truck.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- Let the bulbs cool before touching the housing. Halogen bulbs get very hot.
- Do not touch the glass part of a new halogen bulb with bare fingers. Skin oil shortens bulb life.
- If your truck has projector-style lamps, be gentle with the rear dust cap and wiring.
- No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Trim removal tool
- 8mm socket

- Work on one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the back of the headlamp
- Open the hood and locate the rear of the headlight housing.
- If anything blocks access, use the 8mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to remove the air intake tube fasteners or nearby cover pieces, if equipped.
- Move wiring and the intake tube gently out of the way.
Step 2: Remove the bulb connector
- Reach behind the headlamp and unplug the electrical connector from the bulb.
- If the connector is tight, use your fingers and a small wiggle motion. Do not pull on the wires.
- Pull on the plug, not the wires.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Rotate the bulb counterclockwise by hand until it unlocks.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the housing.
- Inspect the rubber seal and housing opening for dirt or moisture.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Put on mechanic gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Insert the new bulb into the housing in the same position as the old one.
- Rotate it clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
- Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
Step 5: Reassemble the intake or cover pieces
- Reinstall any intake duct or cover pieces removed earlier.
- Use the 8mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to tighten fasteners snugly.
- Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs) for small plastic trim fasteners, if equipped.
Step 6: Repeat on the other side
- Follow the same steps for the opposite headlight bulb.
- Make sure both bulbs are fully seated and the connectors are locked.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and confirm both low beams work.
- Check the beam pattern against a wall to make sure both sides are aimed evenly.
- If one side does not light up, recheck the connector and bulb lock position.
- Dispose of old bulbs properly.
