🔧 Headlight Bulb Replacement - Bulb Swap
Replace both front headlight bulbs one side at a time so you can compare the old and new bulbs and keep the connectors in the right place. On your Accord, access is from behind the headlight housing, so you do not need to remove the front bumper for a basic bulb swap.
Assumption: This procedure is for the standard halogen headlight bulbs. If your Accord has factory HID or LED headlamps, the bulb/module service is different.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the headlights off and let the bulbs cool before touching them.
- Do not touch the glass part of a new halogen bulb with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
- Use the correct bulb type for the headlight position. Low beam and high beam bulbs are not always the same.
- If you have factory HID/LED headlights, do not force the bulb area; high-voltage parts may be present.
- Battery disconnect is not required for a basic halogen bulb replacement.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key or shut the vehicle fully off.
- Open the hood and make sure the lamps are cool.
- Work on one side at a time so you can use the other side as a reference.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood and locate the headlight access area
- Use the hood release, then secure the hood fully open.
- Stand behind the headlight assembly and find the rear bulb dust cover or bulb socket.
- Take a photo before removing anything.
Step 2: Remove the rear access cover
- Use your hand first to twist off the round or oval rear cover on the headlight housing.
- If it is tight, use a flat trim tool carefully to help lift the edge without cracking the cover.
- Set the cover aside where it will stay clean.
Step 3: Disconnect the bulb connector
- Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight off the bulb.
- Do not pull on the wires.
- Gentle pressure prevents broken clips.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Rotate the bulb counterclockwise, or release the retaining clip if your bulb uses a spring clip.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the housing.
- Keep track of the bulb orientation so the new one goes in the same way.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Use gloves and insert the new bulb without touching the glass.
- Align the tabs correctly, then lock the bulb in place by turning it clockwise or re-securing the clip.
- Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
- Make sure the bulb sits fully seated.
Step 6: Reinstall the access cover
- Use your hand to twist the rear cover back onto the housing until it is snug and sealed.
- Check that the rubber seal is not pinched.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Follow the same steps for the second headlight bulb.
- Work slowly so both sides end up seated the same way.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and confirm both bulbs illuminate.
- Check high beam, low beam, and turn signals if you moved any nearby connectors.
- Verify the beam pattern is even on a wall or garage door.
- If one bulb does not light, recheck the connector and bulb seating.
