🔧 Accord - Headlight Bulb Replacement
On your Accord, each headlight housing has separate bulbs (low beam and high beam). Replacing the bulbs restores nighttime visibility and helps avoid a bulb suddenly failing on the road.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights off and let the headlight area cool before touching bulbs.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and do not touch the glass of a halogen bulb; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Support the hood securely and keep tools away from the battery terminals.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Trim clip remover
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" extension for 1/4" ratchet
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Low beam headlight bulb - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
- High beam headlight bulb - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlight switch to OFF and remove the key/fob from the car.
- Open the hood and use a flashlight so you can clearly see the rear of each headlight.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which bulbs you’re replacing
- From behind the headlight housing, locate the bulb sockets (they twist into the housing).
- Low beam is the main “night driving” light; high beam is the brighter “brights” light.
- Tell me: low beam only, or low + high?
Step 2: Get access behind the passenger-side headlight
- For easiest access, work from above with a flashlight.
- If the washer reservoir neck is in the way, remove any clips/bolts holding nearby ducting using a trim clip remover and 10mm socket.
- A trim clip remover is a small pry tool that pops plastic push-clips out without breaking them.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb (passenger side)
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Unplug the bulb connector by pressing the lock tab and pulling straight back (use your fingers, not pliers).
- Rotate the bulb/socket counterclockwise to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
Step 4: Install the new bulb (passenger side)
- Insert the new bulb into the housing in the same orientation as the old one.
- Twist clockwise until it stops (snug by hand; no torque spec applies).
- Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
- If you touched the glass, clean with alcohol.
Step 5: Repeat on the driver-side headlight
- Access is tighter on the driver side due to the fuse box/battery area, but the steps are the same.
- Use a flashlight and take your time to avoid pulling on wiring.
- If you removed any ducting or covers, reinstall them using a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet.
Step 6: Quick function check
- Turn headlights ON and verify both sides match in brightness and color.
- Turn high beams ON (if replaced) and verify both work.
✅ After Repair
- Make sure all connectors are fully seated and no wiring is pinched.
- Verify the headlight dust covers (if equipped) are on and sealed to keep moisture out.
- Take a short night drive and confirm the beam aim looks even (no parts removed should change aim).
