🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Disconnect the Battery

• Put on safety glasses and clean nitrile gloves.
• Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch ratchet to loosen the negative battery terminal clamp.
• Lift the negative cable off the battery post and secure it away from the post.
• Never skip this with HID lights.

Step 2: Access the Driver-Side Headlight Rear Cover

• Stand at the front of your Grand Cherokee and locate the round rear access cover behind the driver-side headlamp housing.
• If a nearby plastic air deflector or push clip blocks your hand, use a flat trim removal tool to gently remove the plastic push clip.
• Use needle-nose pliers only if the clip center is hard to pull up by hand.
• Keep all clips in a safe spot.

Step 3: Remove the Driver-Side Rear Headlight Cover

• Use your hand to rotate the round rear headlight cover counterclockwise.
• Pull the cover straight rearward and set it aside.
• Use a microfiber cloth to wipe dirt away from the opening so debris does not enter the housing.

Step 4: Disconnect the Driver-Side Bulb Connector

• Look inside the housing and find the electrical connector attached to the back of the bulb.
• Use your hand to unlock and remove the connector from the bulb.
• If the connector is tight, gently wiggle it by hand. Do not pull on the wires.
• Pull the plug, not the wiring.

Step 5: Remove the Driver-Side Bulb

• Use your gloved hand to rotate the bulb counterclockwise until it unlocks.
• Pull the bulb straight out of the headlamp housing.
• Keep the old bulb upright and avoid bumping the glass against the housing.

Step 6: Install the New Driver-Side Bulb

• Hold the new HID bulb by the base only while wearing clean nitrile gloves.
• If the glass is accidentally touched, clean it with a microfiber cloth before installation.
• Insert the bulb straight into the headlamp housing, aligning the tabs with the slots.
• Use your hand to rotate the bulb clockwise until it locks fully in place.
• No bolt torque is used for the bulb; it locks by hand pressure only.

Step 7: Reconnect the Driver-Side Bulb Connector

• Apply a very small amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal only, not the bulb terminals.
• Push the connector onto the bulb until it seats fully.
• Use your hand to tug lightly on the connector body to confirm it is secure.

Step 8: Reinstall the Driver-Side Rear Cover

• Place the round rear cover back onto the headlamp housing.
• Use your hand to rotate the cover clockwise until it is fully locked.
• Make sure the cover sits flat all the way around to keep water out.

Step 9: Access the Passenger-Side Headlight Rear Cover

• Move to the passenger side and locate the round rear access cover behind the headlamp housing.
• If a plastic cover or push clip blocks access, use a flat trim removal tool to lift the clip center and remove the clip.
• Use needle-nose pliers only if the clip is difficult to grip.

Step 10: Replace the Passenger-Side Bulb

• Use your hand to rotate the round rear cover counterclockwise and remove it.
• Use your hand to disconnect the bulb connector without pulling on the wires.
• Use your gloved hand to rotate the old bulb counterclockwise and pull it straight out.
• Install the new HID bulb by aligning the tabs, pushing it straight in, and rotating it clockwise until locked.
• Apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal only, then reconnect the connector by hand.
• Reinstall the rear cover by rotating it clockwise until fully locked.

Step 11: Reinstall Any Removed Clips or Covers

• Use your hand to reinstall any plastic clips or covers removed for access.
• If a push clip was removed, press the clip body into the hole first, then press the center pin flush by hand.

Step 12: Reconnect the Battery

• Place the negative battery cable back onto the battery post.
• Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch ratchet to tighten the clamp nut snugly.
• Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs)
• Do not overtighten the battery terminal.

Step 13: Test the Headlights

• Turn the ignition to RUN or start the engine.
• Turn the headlight switch ON.
• Confirm both low beams illuminate evenly.
• Stand in front of a wall or garage door and check that both beam patterns look level and similar.
