🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Replacement

Assumption: This guide covers the two front headlight bulbs on your Rogue’s halogen headlamp assemblies. If your lights are HID or LED, the procedure is different.

Replacing both bulbs at the same time keeps the light output even and saves you from doing the job twice. On your Rogue, access is tight but the job is straightforward with the right bulb type and a careful hand.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • Let the bulbs cool completely before touching them.
  • Do not touch the glass on new halogen bulbs with bare fingers. Skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
  • Work carefully around the headlamp housing and wiring connectors so you do not break the clips.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Extension

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlights off.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood and access the back of the headlamp

  • Use the hood release inside the cabin, then secure the hood.
  • Stand at the front of the Rogue and locate the rear of each headlamp assembly.
  • Work one side at a time.

Step 2: Remove any access covers or intake ducting in the way

  • If the driver or passenger side has a plastic cover blocking access, remove it by hand or use a trim clip removal tool.
  • If an air duct or small plastic retainer is in the way, remove the fastener with a 10mm socket and ratchet if needed.
  • Keep the hardware in a safe place.

Step 3: Unplug the old bulb

  • Reach behind the headlamp and locate the bulb connector.
  • Press the tab on the connector and pull it straight off the bulb.
  • If the connector is tight, gently wiggle it while pulling. Do not yank on the wires.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if a retaining tab or cover needs to be released.
  • Turn the bulb counterclockwise if it uses a twist-lock base, then pull it straight out.
  • Do not force it. The bulb should come out with light pressure.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Put on mechanic gloves or hold the bulb by the base.
  • Insert the new bulb into the socket in the same orientation as the old one.
  • Turn it clockwise until it locks in place, if equipped with a twist-lock base.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Use the same process for the second bulb.
  • Replace both bulbs together so the light color and brightness stay even.

Step 7: Reinstall covers and test the lights

  • Reinstall any access covers, ducting, or fasteners you removed.
  • Close the hood.
  • Turn on the low beams and check both sides.
  • Turn on the high beams and verify proper operation if you replaced those bulbs.

✅ After Repair

  • Check that both bulbs light up evenly.
  • Make sure no warning lights are on in the dash.
  • If one side does not work, recheck the connector and bulb seating.
