🔧 Headlight Bulbs - Bulb Replacement

Assumption: this is for the front low-beam headlight bulbs on both sides. On your Sequoia, the bulb access is from behind the headlamp housing, so you can usually replace them from the engine bay without removing the bumper. If your lamps are HID, treat the system as high-voltage and handle it carefully.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlight switch off, remove the key/fob from the vehicle, and let the bulbs cool before touching anything.
  • If your Sequoia has HID bulbs, the ballast and bulb circuit can carry high voltage. Do not turn the lights on while the bulb is unplugged.
  • Wear clean gloves. Skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • Do not touch the glass on halogen bulbs. If you do, clean it with alcohol before installing.
  • If you disconnect the battery, save your radio presets first.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Latex or nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Extension bar
  • Flat trim tool
  • Clean microfiber cloth

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front headlight bulb set, low beam, OEM-matched - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch off.
  • Open the hood and make sure the engine is cool.
  • If your bulbs are HID, disconnect the negative battery terminal with a 10mm socket before touching the bulb area.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the rear of the headlight housing

  • Open the hood and locate the back side of each headlight assembly.
  • If any intake duct or cover blocks access, remove it using a 10mm socket and ratchet.
  • Keep all clips in a tray.

Step 2: Remove the bulb cover

  • Use a flat trim tool or your hand to remove the dust cover or rear access cap from the back of the headlamp.
  • Set the cover aside where it will stay clean.

Step 3: Unplug the bulb

  • Use your hand to unplug the electrical connector from the bulb.
  • If it feels stuck, wiggle it gently instead of pulling hard.
  • Pull on the connector, not the wires.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Use your hand to rotate the bulb counterclockwise, then pull it straight out.
  • If a retaining ring is present, release it carefully before removing the bulb.
  • Do not force it. The bulb should come out with a short twist.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Use a clean microfiber cloth and gloves to handle the new bulb.
  • Align the tabs, insert the bulb, and turn it clockwise until it locks.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector by hand.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and repeat on the other side

  • Reinstall the dust cover or access cap by hand until fully seated.
  • Repeat the same steps on the opposite side.
  • If you removed any ducts or brackets, reinstall them with a 10mm socket.
  • Do one side at a time.

Step 7: Test the lights

  • Turn the headlight switch on and verify both bulbs illuminate.
  • Check low beam, high beam, and parking lights if needed.
  • If one side does not work, recheck the connector and bulb seating.

✅ After Repair

  • Stand in front of the vehicle and confirm both beams are even.
  • Make sure the bulb covers are sealed tightly to keep moisture out.
  • If a HID bulb was replaced, confirm there is no flicker or warning light.
  • If the light aim seems off, have the headlamps aimed properly.
